November 25, 2005, Oceanside, CA—Artist First World Radio DJ, Scott the “Z” Man at http://www.ArtistFirst.com will
interview Kathe Gogolewski, award winning author of TATO, a fantasy adventure for middle grade readers and A Promise
to Keep, a romantic suspense, for one hour live on December 1st at 9 PM EST.
ArtistFirst, billed as the Best New Music You’ve Never Heard, was voted a Top 15 Station by New York Music Experience.

Kathe Gogolewski will talk about her books and writing with Scott. Her children’s book, Tato, just released from Wings

Gogolewski, a retired schoolteacher turned school volunteer, is writing a science and language arts unit to go with the

villain. Piers Anthony, renowned science fiction and fantasy author writes of TATO, “I did enjoy this novel, and think a young
reader would too."

Dragon Publishing at http://www.Double-Dragon-eBooks.com. She has contributed to several anthologies and has
written numerous short stories and poems. She is an editor of the Muse Marquee, and ezine for writers, an Advisory Board

Lake Elementary Teachers Search for Company or Individuals to
Adopt Their Classrooms for Science and Literature Project
Oceanside Lake Elementary teachers Ranae Mathias, fifth grade, and Julie Vivaldi, fourth grade, are seeking funds through
the non-profit online program, Adopt-A-Classroom, to implement a science and literature project for their classrooms next
Fall. Kathe Gogolewski, a retired elementary teacher from the San Francisco Bay Area, has agreed to write the curriculum
integrating language arts and science into a comprehensive unit. Children will use Gogolewski’s book, TATO, a fantasy
adventure story, as the inspiration for both the science experiments and in-depth character analyses. Gogolewski donates
her services, but funds are needed to purchase materials.
As the story revolves around a boy and a lot of magic, children will perform science experiments dealing with light, colors,
and mirrors that explain a number of illusions in the story. They will track their experiments in journals using the scientific
method. For language arts, children will engage in a number of character studies. Some of these activities include creating
their own character report cards where different personality traits are graded and explained, drawing wanted posters for the
villain and using checker boards and chips to assess events in the story.
Interested parties may adopt one of both classrooms at Adopt-A-Classroom, http://www.adoptaclassroom.com, and
organization that fosters community involvement in schools by harnessing resources of the community and internet to enrich
the classroom. A merchandise credit of $500, the entire donation, is established for the adopted classroom. Communication
between classrooms and donors are encouraged.

A Promise to Keep, a romantic suspense by Kathe Gogolewski writing under the pen name of Ann Durand, was released
from Double Dragon Publishing Saturday, February 5th.
In the story, the tidy world of schoolteacher Karen Hudson turns upside down as she embarks on a reckless chase from a
small town in California to a jungle in Mexico, searching for the truth about the man who has captured her heart. The day after

Students Like Juan Moran to Benefit from Author’s Scholarship Raffle
It’s been a rough road back from addiction and a broken home, but Juan Moran got his second chance, and he’s not wasting
it. This time, he’s embraced the opportunities and programs available to him and is gustily reaping the benefits.
As a student at Los Angeles City College (LACC), one of nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District, Juan
is part of a debate team that is taking top awards across the country. They placed first in the Novice Division at the University
of Berkeley and at the Northern California Forensic Association Tournament at the University of Pacific in Stockton. They were
also the first community college team in twenty-five years to break in the elimination rounds at the national level of
competition held in Georgetown University this year. Juan is also gainfully employed in the campus “English Lab” tutoring
other students.
Achieving this status has not been an easy exercise for Juan. He details a childhood that was “very ordinary” he said, until he
reached high school. There, he immersed himself in speech and debate, honors advanced placement coursework and
academic decathlons, and a world of pressure. “I was militantly pursuing academia” he said, and in an effort to live up to
everyone else’s expectations, “wasn’t paying attention to myself.” He paid a price for that neglect as he became increasingly
more involved with drugs, “to drown out my feelings.” As a result, by the time he was a junior, he had become a “habitual
user of pot” or marijuana. It was, he says, “my drug of choice.” No longer willing and able to sustain the pressures of his
junior year, Juan left school and went to live with his father, who had separated from Juan’s mother when he was 9.
Juan credits his father as the “catalyst” that turned him around and set him on the right path. It was “the power of love,” he
says, that provided him with the impetus to change. He joined a recovery program and “got closer to my father. He helped me
personally rather than academically.” This time, when Juan returned to school, he was prepared. He started courses at
LACC, received his GED and has thrived ever since on the curriculum and guidance he has received from the college. He
eventually plans to attend law school.
Community colleges across the country offer students like Juan a new opportunity to succeed. Alexandra Maeck, head of the
English/ESL Department at LACC, says classrooms are filled with students of differing ethnic, economic, and age
diversities. They take classes because “they can get in, they can afford it, and they can work at the same time.”
Proceeds from TRI Studio Raffle will provide writing scholarships for students like Juan that deserve that second chance.
Tickets may be purchased online at Double Dragon Publishing at double-dragon-ebooks.com. Click on “Feeling Lucky?” Or
they may be bought at the LA Times Festival of Books at the Authors’ Coalition Booth, Booth 610, Zone F next to the Barnes
and Noble Pavilion. Checks, payable to TRI Studio LLC, may also be mailed to TRI Studio, 4978 Marin Dr. Oceanside, CA
92056. One ticket will be awarded for every dollar submitted. Buy ten tickets and receive an extra two, free of charge.
Donation receipts issued.

Children’s Book Released for Retired Teacher Turned School Volunteer
TATO, a middle grade fantasy adventure by retired schoolteacher, Kathe Gogolewski, was released from Wings-Press.com
November 1, 2005.
TATO captures children’s imaginations by recognizing their desire to earn the admiration of the adults closest to them. The
story casts Michael Tate, an inventive and willful boy, and his bossy older sister, Nicole, into a strange world filled with
fantastic beings and incredible events in order to rescue their parents, held hostage by the evil power that rules the realm.
Gogolewski, a retired elementary schoolteacher, wrote a teachers’ supplement for the story, which includes both a language
arts and science component. She will pilot the program in a fourth and fifth grade classroom at Lake Elementary, California,
where she teaches writing and science as a volunteer. She will also pilot the program in various schools in the West Contra
Costa School District and Palo Alto Unified School District. As the story revolves around a boy and a lot of magic, Gogolewski
will use science experiments to explain a number of illusions in the story. Children will also engage in language arts activities,
such as character report cards and wanted posters of the villain.
TATO is the second novel for Kathe Gogolewski, who published a romantic suspense, A Promise to Keep, in February, 2005
available from Double Dragon Publishing under her pen name, Ann Durand. She is also an editor for The Muse Marquee, an
ezine for writers. She has won awards for her short stories and poems, which have been published by Long Story Short,
JacoByte Books, Penwomanship, and Storyteller Magazine. She has contributed to two anthologies: The Muse on Writing, is
due from Double Dragon Publishing in April, 2006, and Spiritual Visitations, is due from Zumaya Publications in 2008. She is
a board member for Authors’ Coalition and the Museitup Club, an online writing critique group and one of Writer’s Digest “Best
101 Writing Sites, 2005.”
In her review for Midwest Book Reviews, senior reviewer Shirley Johnson wrote about TATO: "This is a fun read, entertaining
from beginning to end; but also one that will teach children lessons of life. Very highly recommended." Learn more about
